July 1 ...
- Torla
We did not start early today although it was a beautiful morning. We
began to drive toward our next destination San Sebastián
after 10AM, and we were blocked by another
herd of sheep just right outside the town...
- Pamplona
On our way to San Sebastián, we stopped
by Pamplona for a light snack lunch at about 1PM. Pamplona is
famous worldwide for the running of the bulls in its narrow street during
the 8-day San Fermín festival, from July 6 to 14 every year.
- San Sebastián
It started to rain when we approached San Sebastián region.
Unfortunately, the rain did not stop for the rest of the day, and the beach
was almost deserted with no tourists.
We still got up to the top of Monte
Igeldo via the funicular railway, the oldest in the Basque Country,
running since 1912. Monte Igeldo offers the best known and most iconic
views of the Concha Bay. We did not stay long since it began to rain
harder and we decided to go back to our hotel room for
our own view.
- Kursaal
The San
Sebastian’s Kursaal Congress Centre is an amazing architectural work by
Rafael Moneo facing the Bay of Biscay. The auditorium is a
massive hall with a capacity of 1800 people. Unfortunately, it was
still raining after the concert so I was not able to get some night
shots of the building.
