Getting there ...
We took a ski trip with our friends Francis and Christina to Lake Tahoe for
this winter break. The last time we went to Lake Tahoe was in
summer 2002 (last time in winter
was in 1999), and I could not remember when
the last time we skied in Lake Tahoe was.
After a short breakfast break at Fairfield, we went back on I-80 and got a phone
call from Christina that their car was just right beside ours. It was a
nice surprise that we knew we did not need look for the direction anymore.
- Tubing
The first stop at Lake Tahoe was a tubing place close to South Lake
Tahoe. It was a good warm up (and it's really getting hot after we
walked uphills several times) before skiing tomorrow.
The Second Day ...
- Heavenly Ski
We booked a private lesson for us so we can have more flexible plans.
We have not skied for several years, so we were not quite sure what level we
were, and Iris was so nervous that she could not sit still on the way up on
Gondola. The view from the
gondola was awesome, but unfortunately I could not get off at the
observation deck. After a morning exercise, all kids were ready to move on
to more challenging slopes, and only the adults were left behind on the
green run. It was actually fine with me that I can be more relaxed
both mentally and physically.
- Ice Skating
After a simple dinner in the hotel room, we walked to the ice rink for
Iris to skate. Although Iris has not skated for this season, she was
still quite good at skating that she made a few tricks from time to time.
The Last Day ...
- Heavenly Ski
I decided not to ski today (got a cold, stomach ache, bad sleep, sore
muscles, plenty of excuse ....). We hired another coach for the
private lesson for kids today, and met them on the California side for a
quick lunch break.
- Lake Tahoe
Before checking out, I drove to the nearest lake shore to take a few
snap shots although this was supposed to be a ski trip, not a photography
trip (I did not even bring my tripod this time!!).
Going Home ...
After kids came down from the slope at 4pm, we were ready to go home. I
was so tired that Woanyu took over driving after Sacramento. We stopped by
Fairfield again to have dinner at Red Lobster (but I could not have anything
except some water and one piece of grilled chicken). On the way back home,
we got another surprise call from Christina that their car was right beside ours
again!
Both Linus and Iris learned a great deal about skiing this time, and were
skillful enough to manage any blue trails. Maybe next time I'll be more
comfortable to ski with them on blue lines so I can be rescued and won't be left
behind.
